In late 1980’s New York #PatSteir produced her iconic Waterfall Painting series, of which the lustrous gold canvas ‘Lama Ghost’ is a part. Her distinctive process involved pouring and flinging layers of paint onto upright canvases tacked to her studio wall, allowing the pigment to travel freely down the canvas surface. As described by the artist: “I try to make chaos within the work; that’s why I depend on gravity to leave a lot of space for accident. For chaos.” Lama Ghost is on view now in our #London galleries ahead of our Contemporary art evening auction on 26 June. #SothebysContemporary
