Two years ago, I traveled to Jordan to visit the Za'atari and Azraq refugee camps. Each family I sat with detailed their journey, the danger they left behind, the necessity to flee. Each was most thankful that they were safely together, no matter how vastly different their current living situations were to the ones they left back at home. Their love was overwhelmingly strong. Their unity was the greatest importance and it was emphasized constantly. I've been thinking about that most of all through current news reports of all that is happening on our soil. It is impossible to stomach the horrors of family separation. It is impossible to stomach the number of displaced individuals. 16.2 million people were newly driven from their homes in 2017. 44,400 every day. One every two seconds.
