?? Reconnaissez-vous le roi figurant sur ce retable de Léonard Limosin ?

Commandé en février ou mars 1553 à l’artiste, ce retable a pour thème la Crucifixion du Christ, il ornait, avec un autre retable représentant la Résurrection du Christ, les autels placés contre le jubé de la chapelle haute de la Sainte-Chapelle.
En regardant attentivement en bas à gauche, vous pourrez reconnaître François Ier, agenouillé, les mains jointes en prière devant une bible ouverte. Il montre ainsi sa piété et son humilité. Léonard Limosin rappelle à travers cette œuvre le rôle d’exemple que joue le roi de France, représentant de Dieu sur terre, auprès de ses sujets.

Ce magnifique retable est à admirer dans l’exposition Théâtre du Pouvoir qui montre le lien unissant l’art et le pouvoir politique. Dépêchez-vous, l’exposition se termine le 2 juillet ! ?

? Do you recognize the king depicted on this retable?

In February or March 1553, Léonard Limosin was commissioned to produce this retable on the theme of the Crucifixion. It decorated, with another retable representing the Resurrection, the altars against the rood-screen in the upper chapel of the Sainte-Chapelle.
If you look carefully at the bottom left, you will recognize Francois I, kneeling, with his hands joined in prayer in front of an open bible. Thus, he shows his piety and humility. Through this work, Léonard Limosin reminds the exemplary role played by the King of France, God's representative on earth, among his subjects.

This beautiful retable is on display in the exhibition Power Plays that focuses on the connection between art and political power. Hurry up, the exhibition ends on July 2! ?
