Perhaps a sign. A bird interrupted, on a feeding run no doubt. Certainty left. Before the merging took place. Some times it’s hard to be nice. Why do we have to be nice to people who thought contraception was evil? Who thought divorce would destroy a country? Who thought marriage equality a ruination ? Who think women can’t have choice over their own bodies? Their own minds. But we are the evil ones? Those of us with our feet planted on this earth. Those of us burdened by facts. By complexity. By doubt. By life. I don’t like my anger. It tastes bitter, and lingers. It spreads, infects. And , oddly, comforts. Because it’s easier than getting to the root of it and asking what am I afraid of ? I’m afraid Ireland could be so stupid, so intolerant, so lacking compassion, that No could win. Because we have history. Because we didn’t care. Because we turned our backs, shut our eyes,closed our ears. Because we abused. Because we gave our power to men in robes to do as they please. Because they haven’t gone away you know. I have fear. The comfort blanket of prayer long destroyed. However....the courage shown by so many gives such #hope . Whatever the outcome on Friday, it is over. This will eventually become a true republic. One referendum at a time. It’s raining now, outside. On all of us. We’ll always have that I suppose. We irish. #repealthe8th
