Last week, the Financial Times published a profile on Vera Lutter, providing an overview of the artist's life and work. The piece describes the first time Lutter created one of her large-scale pinhole-camera photographs:

"Lutter had turned her room into a camera obscura, literally a 'dark room' [...] 'I would capture the city with the city,' she says, 'architecture being the camera photographing the architecture around me.'"

Photographs by Lutter are included in the group show "About Photography," currently on view at Gagosian San Francisco. The exhibition explores the ways in which artists use photography as a medium, a means to an end, and a catalyst for other art forms.
