Chim↑Pom: Why Open?

White Rainbow
From May 17 – July 7, Chim↑Pom presents a solo exhibition “Why Open?” at London’s White Rainbow. The title comes from an anecdote the members heard when interviewing participants of the 2014 Sunflower Movement­­, where students took over the Taiwanese parliament for a month­­­­; the building’s door, which everybody assumed would be locked, was in fact open. Exhibited works include: a new installation of their Asian Art Biennial 2017 “道 (Street)“ project, a 200-meter long piece that runs across the museum’s garden and connects its inside with the outside public street; “Silent Bells,” which attempts to link the audience to Fukushima’s nuclear exclusion zones; their project in Mexico, based on member Ellie’s U.S. entry issue; and a new work on manholes. The show brings together works from Chim↑Pom’s recent practice that contest with ideas of the public and of borders.
