I’m hard pressed to find a more magical place and people than on the Hawaiian Islands. There is an always deep respect for the land and of the spiritual forces that preside over it. My prayers to the people of Hawaii during this churning of your natural surroundings. ?? #Repost @dahui.hawaii ・・・ Prayers to our people of Hawai’i island as Pele shows her magnificent power and beauty. “THIS IS LIFE & NEW BEGINNINGS” ?? ? A gentle reminder to all Hawaiians that the land belongs to nā akua o hawai’i (the gods of Hawaii) and one simply can never own land, but only dwell on it. The mo’olelo or legend of Pele and her sister the sea goddess Namakaokaha’i demonstrates the power of both water and fire and how they balance each other out. I ka wā kahiko, the Hawaiian sea goddess, Namakaokaha'i, chose the beautiful Nā Pali coast as her home. She lived there with her husband, a powerful sorcerer who went by the name of 'Aukelenuiaiku. The land was so beautiful that all the Gods thought they should have a share in it. The volcano goddess Pele, younger sister to Namakaokaha'i, made her way to the island of Kaua'i to claim the Nā Pai coast as hers. When Pele arrived to Kaua'i, she seduced the ocean goddess' husband and started to built her fiery hale (house) beneath the cliffs. Once Namakaokaha'i found out about her husband and Pele, she sent giant waves to the hale that Pele was trying to built, ultimately destroying it. Namakaokaha'i was so angry that she chased Pele and her husband away by sending gigantic tidal waves to every island in the chain that Pele tried to build a home on. Once Pele had reached Hawai'i island, she decided to build her fiery volcano home upon Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa was so great that not even her sister's powerful waves could reach her there. To this day you can still see the two sisters battling. When Pele erupts from Hawai'i island, she flows all the way to the ocean. This was a symbol for Kanaka maoli showing the match of strength between FIRE & WATER.
