Every once in a while I’m struck by a sort of gentle mortality, a fog-like awareness that blurs the edge of my thoughts and reminds me that I am aging day by day, fear free even without a guarantee of tomorrow. On these days, I find myself acutely missing all the wonderful people in this photo. Part of me wishes I’d been older when they all moved on. I have so many questions I’d ask them at 28 that I couldn’t have fathomed at 12. I’d want to hear so much more about their incredible decades of yesterdays, something I don’t think young me could even comprehend, let alone sit in awe of. I’d want to know what it felt like to live to see the world change, as so few get to.
And I’d definitely want to play another game of Yahtzee with oreos.

Love you Grandma Ina, Grandpa Pantaleon and Grandma Laurie. Thanks for all the stories I did get told, even if I didn’t know how to ask for them.
