Many of our period rooms survived for centuries and crossed oceans before arriving in our galleries, and every once in a while, they need a little upkeep. We recently replaced the nearly seventy-year-old wall fabric in our 17th-century room from the Hôtel de Lauzun, Paris, with vibrant new silk damask. The Museum's upholsterer and conservators meticulously removed the old fabric and installed the new to restore the room to its original opulence. The new fabric references the room’s initial site in Paris, where the same fabric color and pattern was used in a recent refurbishment.
