@MichaelFranchi photographed one-year-old Bulugambi Marika who was painted with the Rirratjingu clan design (Miny'tji), as the community of Yirrkala prepared for Prince Charles' visit to Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory. "For this shoot, we were along the stunning coastline of Yirrkala, it was late in the afternoon, however, the harsh top end sun stays high in the sky. I had Bulugambi positioned with the sun over his right shoulder, this positioning gave me a slight shadow on his face which then allowed me to easily fill his face with an SB-5000 in a small softbox, camera left and linked with Nikon's WR-R10 wireless adapter to the D5 for quick and easy control.
When fighting to overpower the sun with a single Speedlight, an easy fix is to position the subject so the sun becomes a rim light and leaves the subject's face in shadow which can then easily be filled using a small light source without having to battle the sun." Camera: Nikon D5
