Video by @Tim Laman. Display of the Vogelkop Superb Bird-of-Paradise, a new species of bird-of-paradise found only in the mountains of West Papua, Indonesia. Many of you will notice the similarity of this species to the well-known Superb Bird-of-Paradise, famous from the film Planet Earth, which also has super-black plumage, blue breast-shield and false blue eye-spots. However, this newly described form is distinct in many ways. Most obvious is the crescent shape of the male’s cape in display vs the oval shape of the Superb’s cape. But there are many other differences which if you are interested, are explained in our video in the profile at @BirdsofParadiseProject, including the fact that their ranges do not overlap.
