Mangini Cave, New Britian photo by @salvarezphoto (Stephen Alvarez) | This cave was a mistake, it wasn’t even supposed to be there. On the maps of New Briton there were no caves at all. But on a helicopter flight up the Isis river gorge we found it. There it was pouring from a cliff face into the jungle, an unknown subterranean river. The earth is full of surprises and here where there wasn’t supposed to be a cave was a wonder of geology. 5 kilometers of passage boring into the mountainside.
