You ever have one of those days? Where it seems like a Schleprock dark cloud is following all around the shop. It starts with something simple like cutting/smashing your finger. Then progresses to a busted tap in a part that you spent a good amount of time machining. But Wait! There’s More! Pretty soon every possible thing that could F-Up, does! The motor on your air compressor smokes itself. Your car won’t start, and you have no money and your wife is mad at you. Even as the big failures start to taper off you begin to notice every single little thing that’s going wrong. Like tripping while walking in the shop or dropping a tool or part. Yes...I in fact have these days more often than I like to admit. My only advice is to pause. Take a 30min break and sit down and read a magazine(not your phone). Reset the whole process. I have found over the years that if you just try and power through it? You will keep screwing up everything you touch(proven fact) Kinda like the time I was putting an air cleaner on a brand new bike I finished. The Allen wrench slipped out and scratched the tank. I got super pissed and punched the tank and the bike fell off the lift. That whole deal would have probably would have worked out way better if I had taken 30 minutes and then figured out how to fix that scratch(instead of smashed bodywork and bent parts) So the moral of the story is. There is no shame in wanting to do things right. A big part of that process is having the correct state of mind. Sometimes you just need to reset it when things are going the wrong way. #jessejames
