After the death of her husband, with four children to support, Lydia Steele Bailey pulled her family's printing business out of debt and became Philadelphia's preeminent printer for over forty years. She was the first and only woman to be designated the city’s official printer. Over 800 imprints by Bailey are documented prior to her retirement in 1861 at age eighty-two. #WomensHistoryMonth
