16 March, National Day of Action against Bullying & Violence (NDA).⠀ My friend recently told me that her 8 year old daughter was getting bullied at school. A group of girls in her class were calling her fat & shaming her in the playground when she ate. She would come home in tears & begging to not have to go back to school; this made me angry,& also broke my heart. I decided to write my friends daughter who is an avid swimmer, a letter. In the letter I told her that her body is beautiful and strong, & the stronger you are the better you are at swimming, and how proud I was of her for how hard she had been working in her swimming training. I also tried to explain to her that when people are mean, it is usually a reflection of something that has hurt them, or makes them feel the need to pull others down to make themselves feel bigger,& as hard as it is they are actually the ones we need to show the most love to. ⠀ ⠀ She sat with my letter for a bit & then asked her Mum if she could take it in for news, because she wanted to read it out so the girls bullying her would hear it. Admiring her bravery, the teacher asked if my brave 8 year old friend would like to do a project on empowerment and how she thinks the students can all better empower each other. She said she would love to, and is going to be standing in front of her class presenting her empowerment project next week using the basis of ‘kindness’. ⠀ ⠀ At 8 years old, she just blows me away. The kindness she has shown and also the bravery in taking an upsetting situation & turning it around to offer kindness to her class mates. If my 8 year old friend can take this type of action in an effort to put a stop to bullying, I know there is SO much more we can all do.We all have the choice; Choose Kind. - SWx ⠀ ⠀ ?As Dolly Everett’s family are now having to navigate life without her, they are working on establishing a trust called Dolly’s Dream, to raise awareness of bullying, anxiety, depression, and youth suicide. You can make a difference by donating: gofundme.com/DollysDream ⠀ ⠀ ?The shirt I am wearing is available at omaze.com/shop with every shirt sold benefs PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center.
