Guide to use the water filled basins at the temples in Japan ?. .
1. First hold the ladle(hishaku) on your right hand and wash your left hand.

2. Then hold the ladle on the left hand and wash the right hand. .
3. Then switch over again to hold the ladle on the right hand and then pour some water into your left hand to hold, then use it to rinse out the mouth. Be careful and not to directly put your mouth on the ladle. .
4. Then finally allow the water in the ladle trickle down the handle and let it clean off. Then place it back on the basin where it was. .
