Everything about Yellowstone is related to its geothermal features – from its creation as the world’s first national park to the abundance of wildlife – all is attributed to its geology. Yellowstone is a giant super-volcano which is the reason for its high concentration of geothermal features of geysers and hot springs. For this reason, the land was deemed unique in 1872 and the park was formed to protect these geological features. The wildlife that lived within the boundaries of this newly formed national park were eventually protected from over hunting, which has led to Yellowstone becoming the best place in the United States to see its native large mammals - bison, elk, grizzly and black bears and wolves. All because of a super-volcano. Thank you, geology, for the good work that you do on this plant.
