One of the most important things you can get as a young musician, is someone who believes in you...When I was only 12 years old living in Seattle, I walked straight up to my idol (the great Clark Terry) after one of his shows, & asked him to teach me how to play the trumpet. It was an extreme ask, but he graciously accepted & became my very first trumpet teacher...& I his first student. He taught me early in the mornings before I went to school, despite the fact that he would be running on almost no sleep, after having played late shows the night before. Fast forward to many decades later...Clark introduced me to this young cat...His last student. @justinkauflinmusic & I have a special bond because for us...Clark was that "someone" who gave us the the gift of belief. He brought us together & man, what a ride it has been!! Justin, you are truly a rare & beautiful soul & I am so proud to have you on the team. Nothing can keep you from achieving your dreams & you have truly demonstrated that through your dedication to the piano & life, despite any hardships that losing your sight has thrown your way. You are an INSPIRATION & I'm forever grateful to Clark for sending you to us...Happy birthday my brother & I look forward to doing the hang-thang soon! For the rest of y'awl who haven't seen our doc, "Keep On Keepin' On", I encourage you to do so because you'll get to see a glimpse of how special this kid is & how beautiful of a person Clark was to not only us, but everyone he encountered...Absolutely blows your MIND!
