After decades of attempts, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute doctoral fellow Jennifer Nagashima and research biologist Nucharin Songsasen were the first to successfully use in vitro fertilization (IVF) to produce live, healthy domestic puppies from frozen embryos. The seven puppies born as a result of this work represent hope for their endangered counterparts, such as maned wolves and dhole. Thanks to Jennifer and Nuch, we are one step closer to applying in vitro technologies to endangered canids, whose populations are declining in the wild. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInSTEM
