Happy Mardi Gras Sydney?! Mardi Gras inspired the artistic development of designer and performance artist Brenton Heath-Kerr. Costumes that masked his identity gave him the freedom and safety to adopt alternative characters. Over his short life Brenton invented, developed and performed a cast of characters which were rich in cultural reference, directly confronting and confounding issues from gender to mortality. He wore Gingham Woman to Sydney’s famous gay and lesbian Sleaze Ball in 1991. Currently on display at the Powerhouse Museum.
