At the beginning of my month in Malaysia, I’m quickly learning how easy it is to fall in love with this city.. mostly because of the people. I was given the opportunity to spend the afternoon with a local Malay named David who had been prepping a traditional meal for two days straight.

I ended up getting there a bit early to help prep the table setting and watched David pull out each of the dishes out from the oven. We wok fried last minute noodles, cut limes for various sauces, and pulled out old china passed down from his family.
David was explaining why he cooks for those just visiting, and talked of how he wanted to keep Malaysian cooking alive. Safe to say it was my favorite meal to date. I can’t wait to see how far his family recipes go and to share them as much as I can.
