‘Ferro T’, a highlight of our 20th/21st Century Week auctions in London, is an awe-inspiring creation from Burri’s celebrated ‘Ferri (‘Irons’)’ series.

The scored, scraped and blemished metal becomes a body of gashes and scars, hinting at the artist’s former vocation as a military surgeon in the Italian army. It also echoes the ravaged Italian landscape, to which he returned after the war was over.
