Bears Ears National Monument, Utah. @Barack Obama set the land aside in the last days of 2016 with the Antiquities Act. Sacred to the Hopi, Zuni, Ute and Diné Tribes, Bears Ears is an opportunity to protect land for all citizens to enjoy. The area is steeped in Native American history. Which makes the Antiquities Act even more relevant.

The current administration is planning to reduce the original size by 80%. While some might see the monument as a “land grab” by the federal government it seems, as seen from the belay ledge, like the reduction is a “land heist “ by special interests.
