In 1959, Lorraine Hansberry debuted her play, 'A Raisin in the Sun' about a black family's experience with segregation in Chicago. It made Hansberry the first black woman author to have a play performed at Broadway, and her work is remembered as one that changed American theater forever. Lorraine also became the first African American dramatist to win the New York Drama Critic's Circle Award.
