Photo by @davidalanharvey . The Romería de El Rocio is a pilgrimage in Andalucia, Spain where one million pilgrims come from all over Spain to walk for days heading for the Hermitage of El Rocio. It’s religious and it’s also a fiesta. The procession I was in walked from Seville and through Doñana a Spanish National Park. Sleeping on the ground, sharing food, and an occasional whisky shot was all part of an amazing and yes spiritual experience. Each of “confraternities” carry a copy of the Virgin in their wagon to present to the Hermitage. All happening during the Pentecost. This was a double page spread in National Geographic.
