These are random thoughts:
-7 hrs before in studio c, Dilla had Pino, Jef Lee Johnson, James & I work on #DriveMeWild I had a crappy snare I never use, but he insisted I use it on the “surf part” bridge of the song
-he also had the Lee Fields “Problems” record but Com was like “it don’t sound futuristic enough”?
-during dinner break I ran to the b room to work on my album (Phrenology) (we were in #BreakYouOff hell having gone through 11 people to sing that damn chorus for like 9 months—I *think* we were trying to woo #CityHigh’s #ClaudetteOrtiz to give us a try (later learned #SteveStoute was having none of that, so yeah I’ll be grilling him about that on @QLS lol) I think we also tracked “!!!!!!!” as well.
-Dilla also did the most DERANGED loop of Sly’s #TripToYourHeart I’ve ever heard (see other video)
-30 mins after this clip, Pino gets a call from #PeteTownsend telling him #JohnEntwistle has just passed & will he drop everything NOW and cram learn 40+ #TheWho songs In 2 days—as in private plane in Philly on standby NOW!—-boom he left.
-side note Com is WORLD FAMOUS for rejecting CLASSICS. It kills me to this day Dilla flipped this 12/8 song THAT HAS “(love) it will come, it will come it will come” IN THE LOOP! for #ComeClose—so perfect! But “Dr No” said “meh” lol—-(see clip, Dilla taking a 4/4 joint and transforming it pre ableton is a miracle)
