We must salute fashion icon Dapper Dan. After a life in activism & learning to design in several countries in Africa, Dan opened his infamous boutique on the historic 125th Street in Harlem in 1982. There, he created custom designs for athletes, locals & celebrities including LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. and Rakim, KRS-One, Floyd Mayweather, and Mike Tyson (to name a few). More than 2 decades after he closed his doors in 1992, last year Gucci reimagined one of Dan’s original designs from 1989 for their 2018 Resort collection. They paid homage even further by collaborating on Dan’s comeback—the opening of the new Dapper Dan Harlem atelier which opened last month. #blackexcellence #blackhistorymonth
