Sometimes I really wish I could be a General Contractor..I wish I could have a minimal shop and just farm everything out. I could sit back and take my cut and cash them checks. But I can’t. I can’t accept someone else’s “best” job. I can never be handcuffed to someone else’s schedule. Whenever you have a business and strive to do a great product? There will always be assholes willing to “help” you out. At first it will seem so amazing to have the load shifted away from your shop, and have the stuff you need delivered to your door. I hate to say it. The reality is, They are secretly envious of what you’ve built, and by “helping” you. They are trying to jump on your magic carpet ride. Don’t think for a second it’s for the money you give them. They want everything you have, and trying to piggyback on your blood and sweat. I know this may sound harsh, but after 25+ years in business it still proves to be true. It’s just in our nature as humans. When we taste a little success we want to spread it around. Right up until we get bit in the ass. Waiting for parts or substandard quality. Or when you drop by their shop and they have a whole “New” product line based off your designs. That’s feels so good to see. Like clockwork time will always show General Contractors getting swallowed up by the Subs. Sorry this message today isn’t full of Inspiration, but it’s stuff you need to hear. The good news is. You made the leap to open your own business and hung that sign on the door. No stop being a pussy and make that stuff yourself. #jessejames
