Delighted to be announced in the New Zealand Athletics team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games this April in the 800m alongside 14 other incredible athletes!! . It's hard to put into words how these moments feel when you have spent thousands and thousands of hours since you were a young child to reach goals like this. And although this is my 2nd Commonwealth Games, it still means so very much. . As many athletes know, the competing is the icing on the cake after all the hard work in training that goes on behind the scenes, many sessions pushing your body through the absolute pain barrier. It's also the result of all the incredible people that help us get there.I couldn't do this sport without my supportive team, it can be incredibly tough both physically & mentally. . I chose these 5 photos to show a small part of my journey. ~ First photo is from the World Champs last year, where I missed out on the semi final by 0.03 of a second. ~ The 2nd is from when I was 12 years old, at a race at QE11, the local Christchurch track where I fell in love with this sport. This track was demolished in the 2011 earthquake, and we have since been without an all-weather track in Christchurch (nearest is Timaru- 2 hour drive away). . The 3rd was from my training stint in Seattle last May with my amazing coach Danny & awesome training partners. Just before I ran my first qualifier at the USA distance classic in LA. . The 4th was from last July at a local competition in Devon, UK. I ran with the boys & my amazing husband & training partner Sam paced me to a 2.00 800m. . And the last was from training this morning. Sam, Tux & I warmed up, then had a small break to listen to the team announcement on Sams phone. Then technique drills & the session. 4x1200m with 90 seconds recovery between each, then 8x100m off 80-90 seconds recovery. Then 2.7km warm down. . Although I'm incredibly grateful for many things over my career so far, there has also been some major disappoinment and struggle, some only few people would know. I only share this to help others who may be struggling. Don't give up, the best is yet to come! . THANKS SO MUCH to everyone for the support! I'm so excited for the Games!
