Had a great conversation with @cthagod about the effects of colonialism in Latin America and how it still creates tremendous racism and colorism in the images we see in latin entertainment. It was not a debate, it was a meeting of the minds as he truly wanted to gain a deeper understanding as to how deep the issue exists in the latin community both here in the U.S. and abroad. It was a great convo that will continue and I appreciate him for not being defensive from my comments earlier today, instead he displayed empathy and a willingness to learn. If u watch the entire interview u’ll see he admitted he had more to learn on the subject and was asking to learn. Mad respect to the brotha! As we deal with the lack of understanding about #afrolatinos or #blacklatins we should not forget the latin tv networks, films, awards shows and latin media that perpetuate this systemic ignorance and act as if darker skinned or latino’s of African descent don’t exist. Cuz let’s keep it 100, it took an American show #lhhmiami , to bring the issue to light, latin tv (as of now) looks the other way.
