I first met Tootie in 2014. Her son-in-law, Tom Clements, was a coach for the Packers, and we began a ritual of watching the away games together with Kathy (Tom’s wife) and our dogs. It’s been said that Tootie wasn’t always an animal person but by the time I met her you’d never believe that. She had a very special place in her heart for four-legged family members and dogs seemed to have an equal obsession with her. I’ll always remember the first time I came over with my puppy Chance. As soon as I took off his leash he ran right up to Tootie, waited to be called up on the couch and then never left her side. It would be like that for every game we’d watch together.
Last Thursday night Tootie passed away. Although she was 91, her passing was unexpected and we’ve all been missing the bright light she brought into every room.
Tonight we say goodbye and celebrate her life. As a family member adjacent, I’m so grateful to have known her and even more grateful that she raised three amazing daughters and had two wonderful grandchildren who would become as close as family to me as my own family.
