The last glow of light on The Diomede Islands in the Bering Stait, situated between Alaska and Siberia. Little Diomede, in the foreground is part of the United States with a small indigenous population of Inupiat Inuit that survive by fishing in the summer and hunting in the winter. Big Diomede, a part of Russia had its local population relocated and is now a military base. The Islands are separated not only by national affiliation, but also by the International Dateline, which runs through the small stretch of Bering Sea between the island group.
