All signs pointing to the weekend ?? This impressive and exquisitely painted work of Saint John the Baptist by Giovanni Baglione is a recent addition to the artist’s corpus, rediscovered in a private collection where it had remained since 1970. With its starkly lit figure and pronounced chiaroscuro effect, it is believed to be an early reaction to Caravaggio’s revolutionary style in Rome. One of 39 paintings from the collection of legendary Old Master dealer Otto Naumann to be offered on 31 January, it will be on view in our #NYC galleries beginning 26 January as part of #SothebysMasters Week.
