Piper, a dark bay pony mare, arrived at Rosemary Farm with her tiny infant son six years ago. Too young to be a mother, she was most likely impregnated while in the kill pens at the horse auction she was rescued from. They didn’t know she was pregnant until her baby colt dropped in the snow months later. The mother and son were then transferred to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary, and Piper has grown into a happy, well-adjusted and healthy horse. She is River’s main squeeze.

River, a dapple grey wild mustang, spent the first eighteen months of his life in a holding pen after being captured by the Bureau of Land Management. Although several owners adopted him over the years, they were all unable to tame and train him, most likely due to his early childhood traumas. He was known for breaking through stall windows, jumping over enclosures and slipping under fences. River needed to feel free. Fortunately, his last temporary home, a boarding barn, reached out to Rosemary Farm Sanctuary for help. He now lives at the sanctuary where he is free to roam and peacefully socialize with other horses like Piper.
