The crown jewel of North America, Denali rises to a whopping 20,320 feet over the tundra. More visitors to Denali National Park will see a grizzly bear during their stay, then the mountain itself. Even though Mt. Everest is higher, Denali towers over 3.25 miles above its base, while Everest is about 2 miles from base to summit. Howling winds over 150 mph and frigid temperatures dropping to -93 degrees (F) make this one of the most challenging peaks to ascend. It's a good thing I was more interested in the wildlife below!
