フィラデルフィア美術館のインスタグラム(philamuseum) - 1月7日 23時52分

Join us for “The Sound of Progress: Songs for John Henry,” on Sunday, Jan 14, at 3:00 p.m. Inspired by the illustrations of #JerryPinkney, this special performance by the #PhiladelphiaJazzProject celebrates the heroic figures of John Henry and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through blues, hymns, work songs, and ragtime.

Homer Jackson, Director of Philadelphia Jazz Project, says: "Pinkney’s “John Henry” is given flesh and expression, and when you look into his eyes, he suddenly becomes John Singleton from Tioga Street, or Raheem Simmons from Walnut Lane, or Terry Jones, the SEPTA bus driver. I hope that this special performance achieves the same effect, bringing the legend to life in contemporary Philadelphia."
