This is how I feel after I tried to inspire the President and CEO of a big shelter to support the anti-declawing legislation and she basically tells my mom and I that we are attacking the veterinary community on a wholesale level, that the reality is that cat owners can drive 2 hours to other states to get a declaw done, that because my mom is having to use her retirement savings to work on the cause she should attend a compassion fatigue session at their shelter, and deflects from the issue at hand by talking about how amazing the veterinarians are that help the animals at her shelter and all the great work they do for animals.
We know that shelters do great things for animals and commend them for it. We just wish they would realize that we must have legislation to save the 30,000 cats a DAY in America who are barbarically having their toe bones and claws amputated. A shelter should not stand on the side of the veterinary associations who care more about the welfare of their vet's pocketbooks than they do for the welfare of cats!
What gives us a lot of fatigue is hearing the victim game playing from people who should know better, that declawing MUST be banned for it to end and the bills shouldn't have any lame excuses like for human health or last resort!
The veterinary profession has had over 65 years to police itself when it comes to this mutilating and inhumane procedure and they have failed miserably. Declawing is a billion dollar business in America. Shameful and appalling to say the least. #PawsNeedClaws #stopdeclawing #nomoreexcuses
