They were just a few lines in a sex-ed video. But they helped launch her career. This week, @msjennafischer, who played Pam on “The Office,” writes about the first time she was paid to act. After college, she moved to Los Angeles with her cat, Andy. “I didn’t know anyone. No fancy connections. No idea how the business worked. Still, I completely expected to be a successful working actor within 6 months,” Jenna writes. “Upon arriving there, I did what every serious actor did in 1996: I went out and got a pager.” 6 months later, her savings were gone and Andy was depressed. She got a job working as a receptionist. Then one day, her pager started buzzing. “Was it a role in a Martin Scorsese film? A guest spot on ‘Seinfeld’? Not quite. My first acting job was in a sex education video for mental health patients. Yep, you read that right. Not quite the career milestone I’d imagined during my formative years in acting school, but it was a start. Finally.” 8 years later, she got to say a line that would change her life: “Dunder Mifflin, this is Pam.” @elizabethrweinberg photographed #JennaFischer while on #nytassignment.
