I’m just left of the middle of the front row with the mop of blonde hair. 1982 Rincon Classic (I think I placed third). A ratty, salty crew. The beginning of the Cito Rats. Memories from this time are like remembering your first launch off a bike ramp and making it, your first air at Sparks or Golf and Fun, your first packed bowl, your first party at The Herb Estate, or your first trip. The beginning of punk rock and the beginning of a destructive time, but still some of the greatest memories of my life: that wave at Miramar during that big swell — second outside, almost walled out, four snaps off the top, all the way to the beach. The beach house. Rich boy breaking in. Espo throwing up off the deck. The girls. Jacque from the Miramar Hotel chasing us off their property. The paintings done by Mrs. Sherman that year. The walks to Fernald’s. Mackie. T-Roll. Mondragon. Jason. Randolph. Putz. The Murphy brothers. We didn’t give a fuck because nobody gave a fuck about us. Crane. 80 Acres. Hammond’s field.
