Women in Iran and Saudi Arabia are not allowed to sing solo for a male audience, as prescribed by Islamic laws. They are also not allowed to produce and distribute CD’s. There have been some exceptions recently with women in Iran singing in theaters, where men are also present. In Saudi Arabia a woman recently sang for a female only audience. The concert, by a Lebanese singer, was the first time ever a woman performed for a female audience in the kingdom. Mrs. Lotfi’s CD was never released, it was part of an art project. #Iran #saudiarabia #femalesingers
