It was the #1980s and magazine maestro and maverick #NickLogan had just been the editor of NME and successfully created the smash hit Smash Hits. It was time for him to break the magazine mould. What better way to do it with a magazine that has since become the ultimate counterculture guide? Bring forth #TheFace.

#PaulGorman - a cult-music writer - has carefully put together the story of a publication who had its fair share of peaks and troughs. From its rise to the top of the subculture chain in the 1980s with its iconic identity, photographs of subculture symbols such as #AdamAnt and #Bowie, and its frenetic and explosive energy always meant that the magazine was at the forefront of music, style, and even politics. The magazine did however, suffer a few stumbles along the way in the ‘90s, and sadly met its demise in 2004. Whilst its existence was cruelly abbreviated, it is undoubtable that the magazine is now a cultural touchstone for imitation and inspiration.
The book itself is chronologically ordered and beautifully delves into some of the most iconic covers such as the '3rd Summer of Love’ with a beaming and young #KateMoss, the sultry Marilyn Monroe-esque #Madonna, as well as the smouldering #LiamGallagher. Whilst there is a palpable sense of the past in the book, for production and aesthetic will indelibly tie magazine to the past, Paul is keen in iterating that the book is not just for those looking for ‘nostalgic’ trip, but rather wishes to tell a ‘story that hadn’t been told’.
