Image by @Joel Sartore | Tawny frogmouths may look like little owls, but they actually belong to a species of nocturnal birds related to nightjars. This one was photographed at @fortworthzoo in Texas. These birds are native to Australia and are found mainly in forests and woodlands but can be seen in nearly every habitat type, including urban and rural areas. They are active at night and hunt during the hours just after dusk and before dawn. They lack the large talons of owls, so their hunting strategy consists mostly of dive bombing and capturing prey in their beaks.
