Mardin sits on the edge of a highland overlooking a vast plateau that expands to Northern Syria, where a brutal civil war has been raging for the past five years. Mardin, Aleppo and Mosul have been part of a diverse fabric of Syriac, Arab, Turkish and Kurdish cultures. Today with Aleppo and Mosul in ruins, Mardin stands as witness to this important historic and multi-cultural heritage.
