If you enjoy #Panerai then it’s always move to take a look at some history of the brand. Thanks to @a_collected_man for the info on this rare piece. . A very rare wartime, #Panerai Type D/E Reference 3646, with an unusually signed @rolex 618 movement. Seemingly having slipped through the process of anonymisation, it retains its case-back stamps and the original Rolex-signed movement bridges. . This makes it very rare, because by this point, Rolex had replaced the bridges with anonymous versions. It has a brass dial with painted Radium hour markers and Arabic numerals. It was probably assembled in 1944 during, or after, the occupation of Florence by Nazi forces. The movement has been painstakingly restored. . The watch has all its original features, with the exception of the plexiglass, which was fractured beyond saving. A used, period-appropriate, replacement was tracked-down and fitted to the watch. A strap was custom-made by @kostasveni, who studied vintage Panerai straps for many years and integrated the original buckle, in order to be as authentic to the original as possible. What remains of the original strap is supplied with the watch. . The watch was acquired during the war, by an RAF Warrant-Officer. A copy of his military service paperwork comes with the piece. Our friend @perezcope has written about this Panerai on several occasions, so we thank him for all his assistance in filling-in the blanks.
