Paley/James Sculpture #1... I would be lying if I said cranking out the first sculpture to send to Paley wasn’t a struggle. In January I started a Big shaped aluminum piece, then scrapped it. Then started a whole new piece 4 months later. We figure since Paley’s stuff is raw and big heavy torn and bent metal. We would do something super Precision and pristine to contrast what he would do to finish it. One small error we made was making the rib cage piece 100% centered and symmetrical. None of Paley’s work is symmetrical. Everything is done A-Symmetrical. We figured our piece would be a clear roadmap for him to follow. I know he did try for several days to follow the path we laid out. At the end of the day he just couldn’t do it. He cut and bent and twisted all the elements we sent into a “Paley” piece. It’s crazy and looks like ours went into a blender or Seth Brundles Tellaport, But still very very cool. The guys in the shop Fro & Mike are Precision Machining/fitting Badasses! They took my rough sketches and drawings and turned them into a 7 foot tall masterpiece. I can’t wait to see what kind of sculpture we do next. All this Non-Manmade drama should make for some pretty good TV on @pbs #jessejames
