“After three years of documenting the lives of immigrants, refugees and trafficked persons in Greece, I decided to visit Ukraine, the country of origin of many of the people I’d photographed. During an early trip to Kiev in 2006, I met these street kids. They ranged in age from 8 to 15 and had all turned to stealing, huffing and prostitution. Unfortunately, the odds were high that most of these children would fall victim to traffickers. This image later became part of my body of work, ‘Open See,’ which came out of my first commission with Magnum.” Jim Goldberg selects an image from 'Open See' for The Magnum Square Print Sale in Partnership with Aperture.
