In 2016 and early 2017, I travelled to 7 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe to work on the story Why Vaccines Matter published in the current issue of National Geographic Magazine.
Here, two children are being registered to be vaccinated in the church of Nzerret, a small village in northern Democratic Republic of Congo, where a measles outbreak erupted in May 2016.
MSF (Doctors without borders) response was to start an emergency vaccination campaign during which nearly 40 000 children under 15 have been vaccinated in 8 days in the region around Nzerret.
About 800 children were diagnosed with measles and treated by the organization’s medical staff. #vaccineswork #endpolio #childhealth
