Facing hundreds of New York City's elite, House Speaker Paul Ryan poked fun at himself and the Catholic church at an annual charity dinner in New York on Oct. 19, 2017. The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner encourages speakers to "poke fun at a political issue, an opponent, or themselves," according to the program, the Associated Press reports. Ryan's top target? President Trump. He reminded dinner guests that it was Trump who offended attendees when he was there a year earlier. "Some said it was unbecoming of a public figure and they said that his comments were offensive. Well, thank God he's learned his lesson," Ryan deadpanned during his keynote address.
