The Tragically Hip is a Canadian institution and Gord Downie was the CEO of said institution. We all sadly knew that this day was coming. But somehow it doesn't make it any easier. These are lyrics from Ahead By a Century which was my favourite Hip song. Humans tend to focus on the potential our lives could have down the line, only distracting ourselves from the beautiful things we have now, right in front of us. By always striving for something more, something better, something bigger, we ignore how much we have right now, right here, in this moment. To quote a dear friend of mine "better is the enemy of good". And if we learned anything from Gord, it's to revel in this moment right now. There's no dress rehearsal, this is it. RIP Gord Downie.
