WE’VE GOT OUR METHODS: A couple years back, Saucony released a “Fluorescent Orange/Fluorescent Tennis Ball Green” pair of Jazz Originals. They were beautiful, so I bought a mountain of the things and in no time, had a number of pairs circulating around the house. Thing is, I started to mix them up. And that’s dangerous. Shoes have a shelf life. There’s that “Brand New Car Smell” period where they feel all tight and crisp, and then a couple weeks later, there’s the “Can’t You Smell That Smell” period where my certain brand of foot musk can start to be detected. Month or so after that, and man, things get weird. Call that the “Gag A Maggot” period of a shoe’s life. Everything’s calm and the shoes are fine. But put ‘em on for five minutes and those spores or whatever start to wake up, and the stink activates. So anyway, I started labeling the things, so I’d know how old a pair was. Gotta be careful mixing these things up.
